Landing On The Net  - The Idea Behind This Site

In been a few short years since The Gatherings At Wellington (GAW) rose from what was once lush farmland in the Wellington section of historic Manassas. The development has attracted residents from all over our nation. We are a classic cross section of the American population.  When we moved here we became part of a new community. Many of us have never lived in a condo before, but now, we are in a community whose members have to govern themselves and steer their own way forward. To do this we are learning to communicate our common needs to each other. To make this task smoother we have created this website. Strangely, an event in US Naval history had something to do with it.
Years ago a study was made by group of social scientists wanting to know how fighting ships as huge and sophisticated as aircraft carriers were able to do their job with an ever changing crew the size of a small city - most of whom had never been on a carrier before.

The scientists wanted to know what the common threads were that kept these giant vessels functioning?   How were they able to sail and fight effectively considering the ebb and flow of their novice crews? Soon, the researchers had one of the answers to their questions. It could be summed up in one word - "communication".  The carriers had loud speakers throughout the ship. Every command that was issued was announced to the crew.   Even sailors far below deck, in the windowless engine room, were given word pictures of what was happening on the decks way above. They were told when planes were taking off or landing. Gunners and everyone else on board heard reports from the radar command center of approaching ships or planes that might be the enemy. Constant, informative announcements kept every member of the crew in the mission loop. It was the key in helping those thousands of crew members understand the vital part they played, both as individuals and as a team, in achieving a successful mission.

With effective communication in mind as a vital element in helping create an informed and functioning community we have started this website. It is designed to be both a sounding board and a bulletin board for all the members of The Gatherings. It's here so to transmit the goings on around us that serves our common interest.

We all have questions that we want answered. For example:
  •       Why are our costs what they are and how did they get that way?
  •       What are the rules we have agreed to live by and who makes them?
  •       What can we do to keep our units safe and our environment healthy?
  •       How do we find other unit owners who might have interests like ours?
  •       What's going on in our near surroundings and our city and state that might
affect us or even provide entertainment for us?

We hope this new website will help answer those questions and many, many, more.  So, let's take a lesson from the Navy and use our own modern "loudspeaker "system to tell each other what's going on and what we, as a community, are up to.  We've landed not on a carrier but, on the net... the internet.

Welcome aboard.
