Groceries On-Line

Picture
One of fastest growing services on the internet  is on-line grocery shopping with the option of having your order delivered directly to your front door. It’s a great convenience.  Here are three of the on-line services that do business in our area.

First up is Amazon Fresh with thousands of items available for delivery by the United States Postal Service.  Groceries available include fresh vegetables, cereals, meat, fish, frozen foods and other favorites from local shops and restaurants. When you order you reserve a delivery day and time that works best for you.  The order is delivered in chilled tote bags that preserve the food's freshness. The empty bags are picked up and returned when the next order arrives.  The Amazon Fresh service is only available to Amazon Prime members who pay a $99 annual fee for the many services it provides.  Once you are a member of Amazon Prime only then can you sign up for Amazon Fresh for an additional fee of $14.99 per month which includes free delivery of the groceries. A 30-day free trial of Amazon Fresh is available.

Next, is the shopping service provided by Walmart. If you have a Walmart account you can go on-line and order your groceries from the nearest Walmart store (Manassas Mall) and pick it up  within a 2 to 4 hour window of your choosing.  This means you must drive to Walmart and enter the pick-up lane where your order will be brought out and loaded in your car.  Pick-up is free and there is no monthly or annual fee. No tipping is allowed.  Walmart reserves the right to offer a substitute product if the one you ordered is out of stock.  If you are not happy with their choice you can contact their customer service for a correction.  Right now Walmart does not deliver to customer's homes in all parts of the country.  Those areas that have the home-delivery service pay a fee for each delivery.

Finally, there's the neighbor in our backyard - Giant. They have a service called Peapod which enables on-line ordering and delivery via pick-up at the store or by the Peapod delivery service right to your door. While there are no monthly or annual fees the Giant service requires a minimum purchase of $60 with a fee of $2.95. Orders up to $75 carry a fee of $9.95 and for orders over $100 it's $7.95.
