Good luck and have fun!
A Message From Former Board of Directors President Liz
During the First World War our Government sent out a unique and memorable call asking people to enlist in the U.S. Army. On billboards throughout the nation posters appeared with a picture of Uncle Sam imploring the motto, “I Want You!" Years later the famous poster was brought back to encourage enlistment in our armed forces during World War II. It was the most successful poster ever made.
In a much smaller way my column this month is based on making our condo association as successful as it can be by also sending out a call for volunteers. Yes, our Board of Directors "wants you!" to volunteer to serve on our different committees. This service can be extremely rewarding as it will not only keep you in touch with what's going on but it will also allow you to contribute effort and ideas to enhance our community life. Making new friends with similar interests is one of the rewards of committee membership.
Right now, we have a Social Committee, Building Captains, a Landscape Committee, a Bylaws committee and a Newsletter committee. All of the members of these committees are volunteers giving their time and talents to improving our living conditions and making all our lives healthier and happier. They are all un-paid which means we, as a group, get great value from their efforts without an impact on our yearly budget.
All of our committees work with our condo's Board of Directors which, by itself, is also a volunteer organization. Committee work gives you a say in what's going on and an opportunity to introduce new ideas to make the Gatherings a more desirable place. Also, working with the Board of Directors gives our volunteers valuable insights to how we govern ourselves and how our problems are solved. Committee work is a great way to prepare yourself to become a future member of the Board of Directors.
By the way, if you propose a new committee or volunteer for an existing one you will never be asked to take on a job that could be potentially dangerous. Snow blowing, ladder climbing or working with power tools will not be part of volunteer activity. So, use your imaginations. What committee would you like to join? What new committees would you like to see formed? Possibilities are entertainment, travel, health, diet, physical fitness, computers and even game playing. Remember, Uncle Sam was twice successful with his call. We hope to be too. Let me know which group you wish to join or what committee you would like to form. Check out the Committee pages on this site and if you wish to volunteer for one just click the "Volunteer" button on that page. It's that simple.
